WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Performing legal research.
  • Writing legal opinions and memoranda.

  • You are currently enrolled in first or second year of a Canadian law school and will be returning to full time school immediately following the work term.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Counsel: The Counsel department provides support and assistance in identifying and addressing risk factors associated with unprofessional conduct. Counsel represents the Law Society in all types of internal hearings and appeals, including disciplinary hearings. They also represent the Law Society at all levels of court, as required.
  • Early Intervention/Practice Management: The Early Intervention department intakes complaints and/or concerns about a lawyer; assesses information for regulatory risk; and triages matters to either the discipline process or the early intervention process to provide feedback and learning opportunities to lawyers. The Practice Management department provides resources to lawyers to employ a range of strategies and skills to support the delivery of efficient and effective legal services and internal processes. They help lawyers manage and mitigate risks to their practice and use technology and innovation to improve legal services.
  • Education: The Education department focuses on addressing strategic initiatives related to assessing and enhancing lawyer competence and includes work related to the Law Society’s mentorship programs, legal technology and technological competence.
